RB : Cheat Sheet
« on: 04.21.08 | 01:12 PM »
Here goes a quick cheat-sheet on maximizing your 'pwnage' in Rokkitball.
[EDIT] Zerostride and Arcturus points added to list for completion sake.  Grin

1) Energy Conservation is Critical!
Be aware of your current energy level as it affects your ability to hold on to Hold on to the Ball, Attract it away from other players, and your ability to sprint. Your energy is reflected on your Crosshair, so be sure to keep an eye on it.

2) Sprinting can save your butt
So you fumbled a shot on the enemy goal, got knocked back into enemy territory and your enemy is running away down field with the ball.  Holding SHIFT will allow you to sprint at the cost of some of your energy.

3) Master the Space-Jump
One of the key factors to winning at a sports game is mastering the 'juke-out', and it is no different in Rokkitball.  As part of your sanctioned Rokkitball armor, you are equipped with a 'Space-jump', or 'Double-jump' that allows you to make a second jump after leaving the ground from your first, before you land.

Using this technique you can jump up for shots, wait for a defender to jump, and then jump again to get over his blocking area.  There are of course many different permutations of this one example 'juke', and all should be explored if you're wanting to take someone good 'to the hoop'.

4) Practice your shots

Practice makes perfect.  Things get hectic while playing, so make sure you can hit those points when it counts.

5) Don't run around with your attractor on. Even if you are near the ball, if your team-mate has it, don't grab it from him. You can do 'dribble' manuvers in the a5) by dropping the ball and letting it glide a second or two before re-attracting it. This is risky enough when there's defense by the other team.

6) The attract beam puts a force on the ball in the direction it is being attracted. Two people, standing on opposite sides of the ball, both attracting doesn't do much. Don't "fight" over the ball pulling in two directions. (This goes hand-in-hand with #1.)

7) Rokkitball doesn't work very well when every person on the team runs for the ball. Middle-schoolers everywhere have proven this conclusively on the soccer field

Cool team play and passing to your teammates is really important - it is usually preferable to pass to a place where you know a teammate will get it, even if you have a chance of lobbing it way down field.  Often backward drop passes are quite useful if you are low on energy and it ensures that your team keeps possession of the ball.

9) On the converse, don't everyone on the team rush the ball at once - make sure that if one of your teammates does win the ball from a fray that they have someone away from the crowd to send it to.  Passing it back into the middle of a mixed-team cluster isn't going to get you very far.

About the practice your shooting tip, don't forget about the slam-dunks!  Those that can dunk can score easy points (and keep the ball from getting "grabbed" by a defender).  Also, higher goals = more points.

Top goal, also the smallest: FIVE points!! (this is one that you should practice frequently, nearly impossible to slam-dunk into)

Middle goal, somewhat small: two points! (great for dunking)

Bottom goal, huge target: one point (easy to protect, but very liable to a ball carried into)

The advices are really great, but they only apply to teams in which the players know each other ... in a public party the positions (attacker/defender/etc) are none existent ... it's like medieval soccer  Grin
