European players/server
« on: 06.27.08 | 11:25 AM »
Hey all,

I just recently joined the open beta and after playing for a bit, i found out that every game(host) with a "green" ping is a US player. Being located in europe myself, i have a ping of 200-300 to these people. This is preventing me from really enjoying/testing this game, since i can't stand the delay.

My questions are these; Is there a way to show actual pings/latency to game-hosts instead of the current green-yellow-red indicators, or at least let "green" pings be below 100. (and if not, is this something that's being worked on/considered)

Second, are there any plans for dedicated european servers?

And third, I haven't seen any other european in this beta so far, except for a friend of mine. Are any euro people here at all?

Yep there are others as well but you're right, we need some dedicated servers over here too. Smiley

I'm a Euro ^^

Getting 200-300 ping to other Euros sounds like a bug though. I know there is an issue with something called "cone NAT" (I'm not a router person) that causes pings to local servers to be much higher than pings to American servers from Europe.

For the moment its easier for the IA guys to run the deds from their own back yard as it were, it just means they can monitor them better and get them running more smoothly with the minimal fuss. Hopefully the dedicated server coverage will spread before too long. I would guess first to the East coast USA, but then hopefully into Europe and beyond ^^.

Unfortunately I can't give any sort of timeline on when this will happen, because the IA staff really need to get the deds working super-smoothly before they can spread them around the world.

There's some weird stuff going on, probably just with my connection, but I was playing on Zhou's server which was apparently in London and pinging 300+. Which is odd, considering I AM IN LONDON. It's annoying, since I've tried pinging all sorts of IPs and can't see anything wrong with my pings elsewhere. Oh well.

Dworgi same problem I have too, Greaper is also having this problem and maybe more people

We have Speedtouch 585 v6/v7 routers, its something todo with the router not supporting full cone NAT.

I dont know what this does exactly but it does fix the problem - but you lose it when router reboots.

See - http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/showthread.php?t=51306

Code:
In Windows

Go to Start, Run and type cmd
Then type telnet 192.168.1.254 and press Enter
Enter your username and password (by default username = Administrator with a capital A and password is blank)
Then type the following exactly as shown below and press Enter after typing the 0

:connection bind application=CONE(UDP) port=0

Then type

:saveall to save the config changes

Type exit to quit

Go to the modem web interface (internet explorer to http://192.168.1.254) and restart the router

Again when you have telnetted to the router (see above), type the following

:ids config state disabled -> Press Enter
:connection appconfig application=CONE(UDP) timeout=0 -> Press Enter
:saveall -> Press Enter

Go to the modem web interface and restart the router

Erm, the issue for the Speedtouch is that it works shortly after a reboot - but doesn't work after a few hours.

There are quite a few other people having issues with various different routers though.

Thanks for the info. I'll try it out with the fix in place. Hopefully my Roadrunner router in Finland isn't one of the routers that has issues.
