Dedicated servers are going into testing on our end for release in the near future.  For the initial release we're shooting just to get them up and running.  There will definitely be tweaks that we will need to make to their configurations and operations in the following releases. 

Things to expect in the first release with dedicated server support :

* West-Coast location only

* East-Coast servers are coming, but will take a while to get into production, please be patient with us.

* Servers will cycle all maps using a 10 minute timer for each map. 

Questions :


* We think having servers that are dedicated to a specific map and time would be a cool way to diversify the game experiences you'll have on them.   Would you prefer to have say, a server that runs Gauntlet all the time with 5 minute rounds?  This might be good for keeping matches rotating, etc. 

* What are some unique server rotation and configurations you might like to see as support for dedicated servers progress?

I'm thinking that we could have servers that cycle AND servers that stick with one arena. Match times could vary.

Also, having east-coast servers would be very nice for people who live in places like New York or Florida. This goes for other games (like Legions) that use dedicated servers.

Well, yea. That's what dedicated servers are. It would be pointless if they were just in one spot....

I hope that you have plans for future to expand IA to Europe, because i have no use
of dedicated servers with 250 ping

We're currently looking into solutions for this, just as we are for East Coast servers.   Please be patient, we promise to get to it as soon as we can (may be a while) :|

Dude, seriously? I have stated many times in these forums that IA is going to dedicated servers RIGHT! I guarantee it. There's no sense putting boxes all over the world when the ones in Portland are not yet solid. The kinks get worked out FIRST. Then and ONLY then do you get deds elsewhere. Rolling out buggy deds worldwide is far worse than having them in only one location, and arguably worse than not having them at all. You guys are begging for deds and believe me we are dieing to give them to you. Because of that, we have opted to allow the beta servers to be public. We could just as easily kept all these servers behind closed doors until we do the worldwide roll out. Which do you prefer, early access to limited availability for those who can use them, or no access at all and be left in the dark? Those are you options. Which do you like?

Do you think there is any chance at all that we don't realize deds are needed worldwide to be done right? Really?

Of course I want the limited availability servers! But Ben, this is not about what I  want. This is about what is best for your  game.

And that's what I want you guys to know with all my comments, I write them to try and help RB be successful. I would not waste my time writing everything I do If I did not think it might help RB be a better game. My comments on the upcoming payment methods - Do you think I made those because I can't spend 10$ for this game?? That's laughable. No, I made those comments because I want RB to be successful. Because that's what this really all comes down to - was RB as successful game?

To go back on topic. You said how ded servers we would like to have and i think that voting would be best way for changing maps and even maybe voting for setting time or more servers with different timers, it would be also ok.

but one question : Will on dedicated servers be possible to have more observers?
So that more people can watch nice RB matches?

I am not upset. I am emotionally excited for this game and it's future. Like I said before, there have been some bad decisions with RB. I voiced my opinions before, and clearly I was not loud enough.

Let me answer your idea with a question. Would you rather have dedicated servers sooner with no voting (but it can be added later) or wait a really long time to have voting on day 1?

I am not giving you some line when I say we want to deds right. We really do. Voting on deds rules. No one will argue with you. But do you want to wait for voting to be in place before you have deds? I'm not promising or even implying that voting is being worked on with any timeline. I'm just saying, do you want the stars after a long wait or will you settle for the moon with a shorter wait?

Yes, deds are going to allow more observers. Maybe not on day 1 though. This is beta, and that means you are getting features "hot off the press" as they grow rather than waiting a long time for one final and definitive product.

Do I really need to answer that? If I wanted everything perfect on day 1, I would not be here on instantaction
